WELCOME, NEW FRIENDS!

Thanks to the delightful friending meme over at [livejournal.com profile] mckay_sheppard, I've added some wonderful folks to my friends list, and I can't wait to get to know you all better! I'm mostly the sort who posts fandom stuff, but lately I've had a bit of sucky RL that has popped up here and there. Still, I figure I might as well introduce myself a bit.

I'm Jessica, and I hate my name (no offense to the thousands of thousands who share it), so please call me Darsy, or as [livejournal.com profile] lilbreck does, James! I'm 29, married to someone I completely don't deserve AT ALL and who is majorly awesome. I'm currently enrolled in community college (yay for cheap tuition, heh) aiming to get a degree in writing. I'd worried about this until this semester when I took a writing class and basically LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT and God, I don't care if English degrees are a dime a dozen, I'm doing what I want.

I started out in the CSI fandom with Grissom/Sara as Scheherezade (YTDaW) or Ssergit (everywhere else), then transitioned to Darsynia as I started up in the HP fandom. I tended toward a wide range of pairings in HP, mostly het, and I really wasn't much for shipping wars (not really an issue when you like pretty much ten ships equally...). I started up in Stargate when I got the 10 season set for Christmas after begging prettily for a week. It turns out I'd seen the pilot and one other episode prior to buying that (!), but I haven't looked back since. I hope to be able to finish up my megaepic HP Sirius/Hermione story once I get a bit of the frenetic SGA love out of my system and calm down a bit, though.

I'd love it if my friends (previous and new) would tell me a cool fact about themselves! My cool fact (is cheating, because most of my previous friends know this already! Oh well) that my father was a Catholic priest, having left the priesthood to marry my mother at the age of 44, after he 'joined up' as a teenager.

Well, not much else to say but to again welcome you all! I think I should probably make an index post of fic (unless the tags are working okay?) at some point this week, as it's mixed up with everything else.

Hugs to everyone!
~Darsy

NOTE: Oh, and I wanted to say, I've decided to go ahead and tell G's parents about the Thing I Was Alluding To Last Week, so I've unfiltered that entry. I am sorry to be all mysterious about it but it wasn't meant to be frustrating, I promise.

EDIT: YAY THUNDERSTORM! <3

Hello again! *waves*

First, I want to say I'm so sorry to hear about what happened, I can't imagine how difficult it's been for you...I hope you're feeling better.

Second, a cool fact about me? hmmm...I work from home :D and love it, the best job I've ever had! oh, and even tho I have 6 cats, I am not a crazy cat lady, lol

[identity profile] darsynia.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, AWESOME icon! I have a feeling I'll be saying that a lot. Heh.

Thank you--I debated about whether to post that in the post or by itself or what, because I so didn't want to seem like I was waving this red flag going OMG PLESE HAV SYMPATHI 4 ME or something, but I figured it by itself would be more so. It's been hard, but actually I'm coping amazingly well--so much so that my husband and friends think the shoe hasn't quite dropped yet.

Oh, that's pretty awesome, I'm glad for you! That sounds as fun as you seem to think it is (did that make sense? Sleepy. Also, YAY THUNDERSTORM)! I love cats, I wish I could have them--and, I believe you, you probably don't throw them. *nods*

Edit: Oh crap no wonder it screened it! Sorry about that! I thought SURE I'd clicked to add you as a friend. I feel like a doof now.

I did not know your cool fact and it is amazingly cool!

Hmmm...cool fact about me...I was once a dancer in the stage show of a band called The Mentors. Quite an accomplishment for girl who can't dance and did not take off her clothes.

Wow that is fabulous! I am in awe--I cannot dance either and while I have no stage fright for singing in front of no matter how large an audience, I won't even dance BY MYSELF IN MY OWN HOUSE WITH THE CURTAINS DRAWN.

Ahem.

Yes, awesome.

[identity profile] vaginasaurus.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
Well, telling you a cool fact would require that I am, in some way, cool.
So instead, I will tell you two facts that, combined, make me seem almost cool!
1. I used to play rugby on my college's team.
2. I lived in Alaska for six years.
and a third, very random fact, because it's Sunday night, and I don't want to do homework just yet.
3. I, like many others, tend to develop crushes on musicians. But I always go for drummers, and bassists, and boys from the horn section. I kid you not, I've loved the saxophone player for the Aquabats for a few years now.

A cool fact about myself??? Can't think of one... so:

I have lived in 4 states of Australia so far.
I have been to 5 continents
I go through fads where I do lots of one thing, and then take a break and go back to doing that thing after 5 years (ie. i have done this with cross stitch, music, cooking for other people etc.)

Thats probably enough randomness :D

HIYA!

For my "cool" fact, I will list my pets: Sam & Dean (East African sand boas) & their offspring YED (same, obviously), Lex & Kal-El (Colombian boa constrictors), Rodney (African pygmy hedgehog), and Cat (common house cat).

Just because I'm putting off going to bed... even if you do know my cool facts:

1. I am an actress, and have worked on such stages as the New York State Theatre in Lincoln Center, as well as parks in small Jersey towns.

2. My hair is down to my bum, and forms a braid three fingers wide.

Aw. I'm very sorry about what you're going through. That must be rough. Yay for wonderful husbands, though! I lucked out and got a pretty wonderful one this time around, too. (I've been married three times, which is a fact about me, but not all that cool.) I can wiggle my ears! How's that for cool? *g*

[identity profile] darsynia.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 10:33 am (UTC)(link)
Ear wiggling is an oft-overlooked skill of much awesome!

Thanks for your kid words--it was a pretty bad week, but I think I'm actually coping really well, considering. Birth problems run in the maternal side of my family, and really, I had been so worried that I couldn't conceive at all, that I can at least take some comfort from it that--that's not a problem. Statistically speaking I should be out of the woods in regards to future ones, but we'll see.

I'm so pleased to hear you're as happy as I am! I never thought I'd marry at all (always wanted to, but I was the proverbial nerdy wallflower) and it's so mushy and stupid but every day is such a gift! Congrats to you :)

A cool fact? Umm, I don't know! I have weird facts, do they count? Here are four--

1. I'm an ordained minister, got ordained on my 22nd birthday (Senior year of college)

2. I've had applications in for multiple levels of law enforcement over the years and I always wanted to be an SBI agent (but there's been a hiring freeze since my application went active)

3. I got into the Starsky and Hutch fandom because of my involvement in the EGPAF as well as my Religion class in college (yes, David Soul came up in Religion class)

4. I tend to speak my mind and write opinion letters to many sources: reporters, editors, and even actors themseleves. My first letter to David Soul (and the first conversation we ever had) was two pages pretty much telling him his reunion script idea sucked. I love him lots ;)

Yay for new friends! Um...a cool fact about me? I'm moving into my first ever non-school apartment in June. Finally going to make my way into the real world. Eep! My roommate and I are going to get Russian Dwarf hamsters and probably name them Ash and Misty (from Pokemon).

[identity profile] gaffsie.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
Man, there's no way I'll be to top your cool fact. How about I share an un-cool fact instead?

FACT: The first fandom I wrote something for was a A Goofy Movie.

[identity profile] mary-russell11.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 10:01 am (UTC)(link)
hi!! ummm.. a cool fact about me???I'm not exactly cool*wails* but. let's see-I do a lot of things my way-for example; I've learned how to read when I was 4yrs old, and then proceeded to read all the major works of literature(from the Iliad to Dostoevsky and Hemingway) during my pre-teen years-no children's literature for me*g*;yea, that warped me a little bit, heee*smiles* so you see, no cool things, I'm your regular garden-variety literary geek!!*blushes* but surprisingly, I have a lot of friends and a nice social life so I'm not a complete cliche*g*

[identity profile] vida-boheme.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 10:26 am (UTC)(link)
Argh! I'm made of anti-cool...

I'll give you a couple of unusual facts and you can decide what is cool *g*

1. I got engaged to my husband of twenty years after six days together.

2. I worked as a researcher on the TV show Teletubbies.

3. I've had afternoon tea with Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

4. My mother was albino.

Hi new friend! *waves*

I'd like to tell you something cool about myself but that's probably not going to happen. So here are some random things..

1. I have an IQ of 145, and had I not dropped out, would have graduated high school at 15.

2. I possess the "Ultimate DH Collection" including 28 movies and (seriously)countless tv episodes.

3. My 2 yr old can work a computer better than my 27 yr old best friend. (He can also read.)

There's three facts.. not necessarily cool, but um, somewhat interesting, perhaps?

[identity profile] oops-pig.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I collect Barbie dolls.... I don't know what else to put!

Also - DARSY IS AWESOME! Word up!

Hello!! I've gotta get one of these up for myself, I'm thinking...

Something cool about me? Gee, I don't think there is anything cool. I will often share my deepest thoughts/kinks, but not the more usual everyday stuff. So it's hard to find something cool that wouldn't give me away. lol

Something interesting...how about the fact that I have been to almost every county in my state? And I use that information to help in a SPN fic (that's currently WIP but one day will be finished) I'm writing.

:-P I'm lame. LOL

[identity profile] lantean-drift.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Umm, something cool about me...there must be something...how about - I was quite literally raised in a theatre. Both my parents have been onstage forever and I was onstage as a baby and never managed to leave. My theatre is my home and I spend more time there than where I sleep (actually, it has been known to be where I sleep on occasion, lol.)
Also, in the last three years I've found a passion for singing and have gone from never singing on stage to being paid to do it professionally and working on my pre-diploma in Opera studies...yet I can still be found, more often than not, chucking paint about in the stage workshop. *g*
.xx.

But I used my only cool fact on the friending meme! Hmmm will have to think of another....Well I think it's cool anyway - I met my Fiance at an Astrophysics conference in Hawaii. Saying Hawaii to fols in the US never has quite the same effect as when you say it to people over here in the UK. It's really pretty expensive to go across so very few people do it. Thankfully my research coucil was footing the bill.
