I used to think, quite confidently, that knowing I was having distorted thoughts would help me clear them. I was kind of right but not all that much, as it turns out.

I know I'm depressed. I haven't bathed in a long time. I don't want to cook or clean or eat. I have trouble sleeping. I don't want to play WoW or eat the fudge brownies with peanut butter icing we bought me for my birthday.

Typing that all out makes it look a LOT more worrisome than I've been treating it, holy shit. But yeah. I don't want to do ANYTHING, and not even the fact that my pants don't really fit anymore makes me feel better (cause, yay, baby) because that means I have to go clothes shopping, and don't you know FAT women don't get to have sex, so we sure as hell don't need maternity clothes! So THAT should be fun.

On an entirely different note, Carolyn can do the alphabet up to F and sometimes G now, we're shopping for a new-to-us car (looked at the HHR yesterday and I love it, looking at the Malibu Maxx and hopefully a Vibe tomorrow), and I came up with a really great way to pull my 2010 NaNoWriMo into a fully fledged series.

Speaking of which, is there anyone out there with AIM or possibly e-mail that would like to chat with me about this? I do my best writing thinking when I'm writing down my ideas to clarify them to someone else (and ILU [livejournal.com profile] wolfshark for putting up with my spontaneous doing that earlier! I try really hard not to do that without explicit permission, lol), but since this is an original Fantasy hint of Sci Fi & future steampunk novel, it's not as easy to find sounding boards, hehe.

How is everyone else? To sum up me right now, I feel like a completely ungrateful piece of shit, let me tell you. We're doing well as a family (despite my lethargy. ILU, family), I'm pregnant, and life is good! Y SO SAD, SELF?

no tags because ugh, depressing.

ps. I can post a bit about the story in a comment/new post/edit if yinz are interested. I won't devolve into a puddle of misery if you don't, which for me is a plus today.

So, I haven't been very talkative lately, and that's been very bad! I don't plan on being all baby talk, never did (might be why I hadn't said much, as I haven't been as fandomy and there's not much else going on for me, heh), but I figured I'd say-- PREGNANT!

I am also taking a Geology course which will, once completed, make it so I can have an Associate's degree. It's a great feeling and so far this is a fantastic year.

How is everyone? I want to say that if you want to defriend me, I completely understand as I haven't been saying much. I think for a while I was afraid to post for fear of people going 'oh, wow, they're still on my flist? meh' and defriend me, but if we're not doing the same sorts of stuff lately I totally understand and won't get weird about it, though I won't lie and say I wouldn't be sad. All of you are there for a reason!

Anyway, I'm due October 15, according to my LMP, and my first appointment is next week! My daughter is ecstatic, and loves to point at my belly and say 'baby!' or try to find the hiding baby in my belly button or under my shirt.

Speaking of her, here's a link to recent pictures (I say recent, but we're bad at posting them on time, so it's more ~Christmastime.) Scroll down for the recent ones!

( This one is my favorite, it's from November when it was warm last year. )
Watched the first couple episodes of Veronica Mars last night. I did NOT expect to like it--I have a big problem with feeling uncomfortable/too much hostility in media things (as in, shows or movies with a lot of that, not like, news programs, not that I wasn't the only one that thought that's what I might have meant. MOVING ON)--but I do like it! Not sure when I'll get a chance to watch more, but yeah.

Also, SIGNAL BOOST: INCEPTION FANDOM STARTER KIT. HOW DOES THIS ONLY HAVE 17 COMMENTS SO FAR.

Seriously, this uh... might be more fun to write in than Who or Stargate? I haven't even seen teh whole movie yet and that was still a fantastic post and go read it if you even vaguely like Inception because [livejournal.com profile] franticsga did a GREAT job. Also, hi pingback bot! :D

So. I'll tell you you need to watch Inception and consider reading that post or one or the other or both, and you can tell me why I should keep watching Veronica Mars? Deal!

ps. have a great story on tap for either Doctor Who Santa or the SyFy Big Bang, not sure which it'll be yet. Fun adventure Amy Rory Eleven! Yay!
Okay, before I explain, I have to ask you guys who write or read fanfiction something:

Are all non-canon slash fics considered AU by the majority of readers and writers in most fandoms?

If I were to write a future-fic story where two characters who had an attraction in canon (endorsed by the writers, as I am a tinhatter, haha) got married, would you consider that AU?

What is your definition of Alternate Universe?

( I gotta admit, while some of what the following makes logical sense, it really isn't established procedure in any fandom circles *I* run in... )
ETA: Apparently there is [livejournal.com profile] who_beta! WIN. But if anyone's interested in offering help, please do! :D
TLDR: how do I hook up with a Doctor Who beta, ya'all? It's such a big fandom, is there really no 'official' place to look or are my search skills lacking? :\

Okay, I've done my due diligence, I think! I basically am looking for something along the lines of [livejournal.com profile] sga_beta but for Doctor Who/Torchwood/Whoniverse stuff. I can't find anything! I don't want to just show up on the big [livejournal.com profile] doctorwho community waving my hand like a gigantic n00b asking for help if that's not the place to ask, but I'm wayyy unconnected to this fandom right now and I'm intimidated and HALP.

I basically want a [livejournal.com profile] cold_poet for Doctor Who, haha. Not that I could ever or would ever replace her, mind you, but I want someone I can chat with who will also kick my ass as a beta, and while [livejournal.com profile] grammarwoman is fantastic and awesome as well, she's my SGA buddy and I feel like I'm fandom cheating? A little? I guess I'm saying I want a more 'this is a creative conversation' kind of experience, and I can't not squee at certain people about IRL stuff and it derails me terribly :(

God, I should NOT post this, because it's likely to be offputting for some folks and offending to others argh.

I am so not tagging thissss. It can disappear into the nether of bad judgement LJ posts! *waves*

Do You Like To Write?

Like to write? Love SG-1, Atlantis and/or Universe? Great! There is a new challenge, called [livejournal.com profile] stargate_las, where you write a fanfic of at least 100 words every two weeks based on a different prompt. Then they get voted on and the person with the least votes is out that week and the person with the most is safe next week. Till you have one author standing who wins! What do you win? A snazzy graphic and a $10 GC to Amazon or Barnes & Noble. You don't even need to be a GREAT writer!

... who will come out on top?

Come knock me out early so I can turn into a cheerleader for you! ;) (ETA: I think they're still accepting signups)
YES PLEASE. Just saw the first one, plan on watching the next two ASAP (but bed first!). I SMELL A NEW FANDOM.

Fic Recs? Icons? ZOMG YOU GUYS.
This article about Ruth Bader Ginsberg ends with a great quote, referencing her professional struggle toward gender equality in the law, and how she had those same struggles in her private life:

In response to a question about work-life balance, Ginsburg explained that in the early '70s, her son, "what I called a lively child but school psychologists called hyperactive," was forever in trouble and that she was constantly called in to his school, even though she and her husband both had full-time jobs.

"One day, I was particularly weary,"* she explained, and so when the school called, she said, "This child has two parents. I suggest you alternate calls, and it's his father's turn." She said calls from the school came much less frequently after that, because the school was "much less inclined to take a man away from his job." Ruth Bader Ginsburg doesn't growl and doesn't issue threats, and she rarely eats small forest dwellers. But she is still the mother of all grizzlies to me.

It also talks about how many women who refer to themselves as feminists now have a lot to thank her for--but what's the most touching is the context itself: a speech she recently gave which was written by her late husband and scheduled to be given by him.
Hello Sci Fi fans! I hath been woo'd by another Big Bang--[livejournal.com profile] syfybigbang, to be precise! Basically a Bang of any and all shows that air on SyFy (lol though I dunno if the wrestling counts, do they still air that?), including Merlin, SGA, V (UK SyFy), Doctor Who, and so on!

I have an idea prompted in part by the Donna/Rodney story of awesome that involves... big shocker: Donna/Rodney, and I was wondering if I could find someone/multiple people to a) chat with me about plot stuff as someone who knows both shows pretty well, b) be a second beta, as my lovely cold_poet knows SGA but not Whoverse.

( CLICK ME TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE PROJECT! Spoilers for 1-5 of SGA and 1-4+specials of Doctor Who. )

Questions

Do the checkboxies for twitter and FB really post friends-locked stuff you comment on to FB or Twitter if you checkbox it while commenting? A lot of people are like 'DO NOT CROSS POST YOUR STUFF' and I'm a bit confused, cause if it's MY stuff, butt out, yeah? But if it's my comment to your post which posts your post, I can see why they're saying it.

It was just one of those things that set my teeth on edge seeing all the posts (+1, but mine's not quite the same? *shifty eyes*) about cross-posting, with quite a few saying what to do and what not to do with all content, not just their own.

Context: I was just concerned with a very specific instance of someone being all 'YOU must avoid posting YOUR posts because I MIGHT comment on them' which, fuck off? But the people concerned that it takes control away from where their content is posted are absolutely justified in feeling powerless in that aspect.

edit: Ironically, I have no intention of reposting anywhere anyway, I just was all 'don't tell me what to do!' lol.

ETA2, son of ETA: so yeah, bad idea, no? Like I told [livejournal.com profile] lavvyan, I don't WANT to live in the magical happy world the people who came up with this idea live in--the one where everything you do is totes okay to show everyone and there are no consequences about it. Cause that would mean I was insane, and that's actually kind of a boring world.

Though anyone who's talked with me can tell you I pretend I live there anyway. la la la.
Just had to share. Full Photo op picture after the cut! Click for bigger, it's on my scrapbook.

HAD SO MUCH FUN IN CHICAGO! WHEE!

I came home and my 14 month old was BIGGER. After three days. And I wasn't just crazy, either, because she grew out of some clothes and into others.

In three days.

She looks like a toddler now. Wow.

Also, how much do I love that David took forever to sign stuff because he was personalizing despite what Creation told him? ♥

Lastly, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] crysothemis, I have a hankering for [livejournal.com profile] cliche_bingo, both reading and possibly writing? But it's not being run this year. It's been mentioned that there are similar communities but I suck at finding them, does anyone know about any? It's kind of selfish, but if, like, no one in any like communities write or read the same stuff I like, it's less fun to join up, you know?

*goes back to reading fic, recs welcome (SGA, Whoverse)*
I'm good, albeit distracted. I got into the Cataclysm beta for World of Warcraft (the upcoming expansion) and you guys. It's really, really good. Like omg. So good that I'm sitting here thinking 'okay, I plan to be pregnant pretty soon, when is it coming out? Will I have time to level up a new Goblin?' lol. Pathetic, I know.

Baby is a perfect angel, as always. She's 14 months old now, she can feed herself without much mess if I hold onto the bowl of applesauce, she's been walking for two months now and she's only wobbly when she's wearing her new shoes or is tired. She is really affectionate and kisses a LOT, though her Daddy has a beard so she gets intimidated by it and kind of veers off--so we do 'head bump' which is her way of saying I love you. She does it a lot <3.

Fandom-wise I'm in the empty zone, I need to get back into it! I'm going to see [livejournal.com profile] grammarwoman at the end of the month in Chicago (and anyone else going! EXCITED), and she deserves a word of 'thank you' for my mainly being a hermit that she has to prod (are you comin'? Yes? Good.) for information.

Any good SGA or Dr. Who fics lately? Anyone wanna chat about Then Shall I Know? I kind of maybe sort of want to write more but I want to hash out some stuff story-wise and format-wise.

Also, I think I may have encountered the most gross thing ever for cloth diapering but I'll only tell people in comments if they want to know. Cause man. WOW.

So yeah. HI!

Also, picture album link: Scroll down for the Newest! ( Also, here's a cut for some pictures in the post )

ps. Crystal was robbed. Just sayin'.
Best MD present ever? A fuss-free bedtime for the first time in the history of ever, with lots of kisses. My baby loves me!

Sorry I've not been around, I keep saying that, but I do still care about ya'all, and I do still want to know what's going on, even though I had a bit of an unintended hiatus from LJ for a bit there.

( Here are some pictures to make it better. )
eta: just checked on some specific people, and if someone can tell me why [livejournal.com profile] vida_boheme has deleted, I'd really appreciate it! EEK. Also, cut is fixed, sorry those who don't like babies, if you're out there! She's hiding now! (not meant snarky, promise)
Very quick post to say ZOMG TIME FLIES WTF.

What we've been doing since I've been away:

We bought our dream house.
Carolyn pulls herself to a stand and can crawl on her hands and knees.
I turned 31, hubby turned 32, C is almost 10 months.
Life is good!

I got the blanket, [livejournal.com profile] argosy, and it's delightful! Thank you so much! I'm sorry it took me so long to say anything; I actually packed the package as an incentive to unpack (curiosity is a great motivator), and I made myself unpack some of the other stuff I got first. When she's just a little bit older, I think it'll be the first blanket C has in her crib!

I am reallllyyyy behind on LJ and will try to catch up, but if there's something important I don't get to in the next few days, I won't be offended if you poke me about it if you won't be offended that I dropped off the map for too long! I really appreciate those of you who sent me vgifts or poked me in various ways. I'm really sorry I haven't been more vocally thankful, it really made me feel fabulous to be missed and loved, but gosh, selling a house is hard work and I didn't even do most of that hard work. Thanks so much [livejournal.com profile] treellamas, I love you so much. <3<3
YOU GUYS, MY BABY CAN GIVE KISSES. BEST. CHRISTMAS PRESENT. EVER.

Also, she got lots of toys and she loved them but her favorite presents were the BOOKS she got. I seriously could not be happier with my adorable daughter who gives kisses. KISSES, YOU GUYS. *dies*

Dear Yuletide Author,

THANK YOU THANK YOU! I am currently unable to load the archive for various reasons (basically load + possible internet issues at home) but I wanted you to know how very happy I am and I hope you aren't worried about whether I enjoyed your lovely gift!

I will continue trying to load when I get the chance! I hope you're having a wonderful December!
This is Senator Diane Savino of the New York State Senate speaking on why she supports gay marriage. I've never heard a more reasonable and logical argument; I very much hope she plans on staying in politics.

I can't keep up! /o\

I still need to comment back to a lot of the feedback for That Which, but I want to thank everyone who read and enjoyed, whether you commented or not! Speaking of fic:

THE FANFICTION LOVE MEME

ETA: Instructions provided by the always lovely [livejournal.com profile] velvetwhip, including the nifty symbols:
♚ comment with your username and the fandoms you write for.
♚ people will comment telling you what their favorite fic by you is, what character/pairing they think you write best, and other positive comments. they can also mention what they think you should write more of, or anything else concerning what they like about your writing.

I am going to make a concerted effort (paper due on Saturday notwithstanding) to comment on all of my flisters who have threads! *pant pant*

ALSO, apparently Best Baby Ever is also nonchalant about teething. She was a little bit fussy last Sunday night, but no more than usual. Monday morning I had breakfast with my mom and she's like, 'Does Carolyn have teeth??'

Yep. She cut two teeth and we didn't even notice. I loff her. She also can roll around the floor and almost crawls. I keep reminding her that she's only 5 months old, but she just giggles at me.
Firstly, hi!

Secondly--no matter what, I support new fic in the fandoms I requested, so if you don't like my requests or can't work them in, write something YOU like, and someone besides me will probably like it. And that will be okay.

BUT, if you want to know more about what I like in general, and what I like in those fandoms in particular, read on!

IN GENERAL, I like character study stories. I love humor. I enjoy slash, het, and gen (not so much femslash, but Glee RPF is slowly winning me over, which is surprising to me). I have a thing for worldbuilding in Sci Fi, missing scenes in all fandoms, and unrequited love in many fandoms. I LOVE it when a character's thinking can be spotted as unique to them (when John Sheppard thinks in flight metaphors, when Walter Bishop's thought processes are interrupted by thoughts of food, when Harry Potter and Hermione Granger get a joke that Ron wouldn't because he's never been raised as a Muggle).
