Yeah...
So, I spent three days not on LJ at ALL because I started college this week, and this happens! I'm sure the multitude of people who have already posted about this have covered all of the things I'm feeling right now (with the possible exception of wanting to just... non-creepily cuddle David Hewlett because his dear twitter posts about loving his job make me so very sad in this context).
I... I wish they'd waited till after the break, or at least after the episode tomorrow. Five aired episodes is NOT enough, in my estimation, to determine whether or not a show is deserving of being renewed! To be completely honest, David's episodes strike me as some of the most popular throughout the demographics, and the fact that they didn't wait until an episode centered on him airs tells me there's not much we can do as fans to prevent this--not that we won't TRY, of course. It just seems like a decision that's less based on audience and more on other factors.
Oh, and I think the single-most pressing concern for all of us right now besides the immediate 'oh show' is losing friends from fandom. I don't plan on going anywhere.

(personally, I think the demise of the show began with Mullie and Mallozzi taking over and I feel so bad for DH, but I'd rather not think of him clinging to the sinking ship that was M&M)

I've just found you and I'm staying here.

This is the third show of mine they've canceled, and I can't even find any decent reruns of anything when I look at tvguide, so I'm glad I didn't call for cable like I'd planned. No Atlantis, no me. I'll wait until some dummie prereleases the Atlantis movies and get them off the net. *sticks tongue out at SciFi and NBC*
Guanomunchers.
Post redone for two window Sydrome. For the record, Showtime canceled Poltergeist the Legacy and StarGate SG-1 before Sci-Fi did, but Showtime's got Dexter, so I've forgiven them.

My thoughts exactly. I got the idea that the S5 ratings were pretty good so far - the 'other factors' may include the money they made from the SG-1 movies, which was, at least that's the impression I got, a lot more than they expected. I hope we'll get some clarification on this.
*hugs*
i still dont understand the decision though, why would they do this esp since the ratings have been much better this season. and i'm sorry but who is writing the movie? mallozzi's eps are always the worst ones, could we not have someone who actually enjoys all the characters, like say marty g who has written some of my fav episodes of the series. or carl binder whose stories are always intricate and interesting? serisously?!
i worry that we are not going to get much more in terms of future movies, anyway, because honestly i think the Flan might find different things to do. he never seemed so much into it as everyone else... i really hate this, damn you scifi! D: D:

Still, SG1 fandom is going strong, 3 years (?) after their cancellation.

Also -- Friday, you wanna come over elevenish and watch it big screen?
I suspect, and don't have much to back it up, that this was less about scifi wanting to remove the show (although yes, part of it) and more about the stargate world's almost indifference to the show. Atlantis has always been the redheaded stepchild, the odd man out compared to SG-1, and I suspect that scifi basically made the decision to have one sg show on air, not two, which meant Atlantis was the one to go. Not just because it's the older one, and honestly had a better-than-decent run. But because the SG universe wants the new show, all the people involved, and well.
But I really don't think this has a lot to do with numbers at all. Just no proof.
Fuck :(

I'm not going anywhere either. I love my McShep friends, I love my fandom, I love my boys and that's not going to change just because the PTB are bastards.
*hugs*
.xx.

Like someone said above, the writers were going for the wrong crowd.
(In my storytelling dreams, I imagine how groundbreaking - well, in terms of American scifi - it would have been to have a male soldier fall in love with a male scientist.)

I mean, come on, tell me SGA gets cancelled so we can get the whole new exciting Universe, and I'll have one more good reason not to watch it.

Though my internet woes threaten to take me away for a bit, I will not be leaving!
