Anyone wanna beta?
Sep. 14th, 2009 02:52 pmBig Bang Beta Searching Tiem! I think dear
unamaga MIGHT be a tad too busy to help out this time (but if you aren't, please feel free to let me know! I just don't want to add to the stress, dearest), so I'm looking for a couple people to help out.
Story is McShep, fork in the road off of Season 4 so you don't need to know anything about Season 5. Any resemblance to events in S5 is purely coincidental, as the parts that are in any way similar were just me being awesome and writing stuff that turned out to show up in the premiere. There's possible light Ronon/Jennifer in it as well, multiple PoVs, and for some reason the story demanded to be in present tense.
EDIT: BTW, if you want to know more about the story before you volunteer, feel free to ask! I'll divulge what I can :)
What I need: Foremost, I need someone to catch the places where I slipped back into past tense out of habit. After that continuity, spotting times where I use the same word in rapid succession (that's a bad habit of mine), realism of character voices, whether my plot twists work and seem plausible, etc. It's about 40,000 words right now and I'm not done (I'm thinking it'll max out around 70k, but it could be less), so I'd probably send it in chunks. Once the rough draft deadline of September 29th (or is it 28th?) passes, I'll not be able to drastically change things, so it'd be good to look primarily at the flow and whether stuff needs to be added or cut out asap, and work on the smaller scale stuff afterwards.
I need two betas officially, and I've shown the story to a few people already, so here's hoping my 'I want to thank' section isn't going to be word count limited or I'm screwed, haha. One thing I will say is that my availability to chat can sometimes be limited, but I am almost constantly online on the iPod Touch (I just don't log into AIM very frequently because the keyboard is awkward and I can't respond to everyone and I worry I'll diss someone by accident, heh). Also, I tend to be a bit impatient on the inside (ie. I wouldn't be all 'ARE YOU FINISHED YET?!' but I might chomp at the bit a little internally), so if the turnaround would be nearer to a week, I think I'd prefer to go with someone else. *meeps at being honest and hopes it doesn't hurt feelings*
