In the pilot, he has a bunch of bugs that are dead, and when he touches them (I presumed to be again, or did he manage to find a ton of pristine--yet dead--fireflies to experiment on?) they come to life, only to end up killing the fireflies in the second tank... Also, if he touches the fruit twice, it dies, also from the pilot. Both of these led me to believe that touching living things twice causes them to die, whether they're insects, animals, or plants.
I suppose I could have just understood it wrong, and all of the situations involved things already dead, but eh. Thanks for liking the story, though!
edit: I put up a disclaimer saying I'm mistaken as to the way this works, as... well, come to think of it, all of the examples that followed my understanding involved things already dead.
