Post 1: Meme Tiem Pls Nao?
Feb. 27th, 2009 11:18 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
This is the first of up to four catch-up posts from me. I have this meme post, a mostly non-baby update post, a baby update post, and a 'hey, gimme your address so I can send you stuff' post to make. Just wanted you guys to know! 'Cause, when you have two mid-term projects, a test, and an audiobook to work on, it helps to take breaks, heh. ;)
LATE MEME! This is the one where I posted 'ohh, me me me!' in
jadesfire2808 and
bitter_crimson's journals and they gave me five words/phrases/things/bananas that they associate with me, and I post about them! Feel free to do so yourself, here!
jadesfire2808 gave me these:
COLLEGE: What? The thing I'm procrastinating from by writing LJ posts? Haha. Yeah, I'm in my fourth semester of community college, and I am happy as heck. Back in 2006 I think it was, I had a really bad emotional time, and in my recovery period, I can remember telling my therapist that there were two things I wanted most in the world--a baby, and to go back to school. Right now I'm struggling a bit just because I have last-minute-itis, and with online courses, this is not such a good idea. However, I'm really enjoying the courses I'm taking this semester--American Government, Contemporary United States History (honors course, 1900-present), English Literature, and Psychology 101.
BABY: The other thing I really wanted! I am really pleased so far--I haven't been sick for about 10 weeks now! For the record, I'm 26 weeks along, we're about 95% certain I'm having a girl, yes we have a pretty good idea what we're going to name her (no, you don't get to know yet), and yes, you can has picture:

It's an unconventional picture because I don't actually look very pregnant when I stand up (I'm arching my back just slightly in this pose), and at almost seven months, it's slightly frustrating to want to show off a belly that is, in reality... kind of a let down. However, despite the 'You're really pregnant?!' comments, it's been a nice experience not to have to deal with all the strangers being nosy that I've been warned about just yet. I still waddle, though. ETA: And for the record, none of the stuffed animals to be seen in the background are for the baby (who we've dubbed 'Babby' for reference purposes, LOL). In fact, one of them was given to hubby when he was 16 years old... he said to me yesterday 'oh, crap... we're going to have to get her all her own stuffed animals, aren't we? This place won't have any room for humans pretty soon, here...'
LEMONS: (SEE ICON!!!) EEEEEEEE. High pitched squealing! Okay. So, last July, I went to Shore Leave with a number of majorly awesome LJers *waves to you lovely ladies*. At Shore Leave, I wore a shirt with this image of terrified lemons waiting to be juiced, hoping to get a laugh out of David Hewlett. Not only did I get to meet David multiple times, I teased him & got backed up by his sister Kate, offered him a tissue, got told I was 'so dead at recess,' and was dubbed 'Lemons' by him. The whole run-down on this keyboard-mashingly awesome experience is to be found here, and is a multimedia experience complete with video and pictures by
grammarwoman. Do check it out, including the art by
vida_boheme!
WRITING: Ah, the thing I should be doing for class right now! *shifty eyes* This is something I really, really love, and the encouragement you guys have offered me multiple times is SO appreciated! The first thing I ever wrote as a big project was when my mother was homeschooling me. It was a history project where I wrote a diary as a cabin boy (girl disguised as a boy) on one of Columbus's ships heading to America. I came up with the idea myself! I suppose it's fitting, now, that I'm still obsessed with both writing and history. Right now I haven't posted in a LONNNGGG time because I'm working on my erstwhile SGA Big Bang fic as well as one for the Dr. Who Big Bang. Which reminds me--if anyone knows lots of Jack Harkness canon as well as New Who, I might need to pick your brain...
THINKY: (Note from
jadesfire2808: 'that is SO a word!') I'm flattered! This is one of those associations that can be dependent on the person who picks it, but I definitely see myself as thinky. I really, really like to dissect things to see what's going on underneath (which, by the way, if you can manage to do in an argument, really helps to not only diffuse the current argument but prevent more, many times), and here again, I have to shout out to my friends list, because without your meta and discussions and just flat out awesomeness to talk over stuff with, I'd definitely have missed out on a lot. SPEAKING of 'thinky,' I am being thinky about thinking I've been boring in this answer! Sorry!
bitter_crimson's list!
LEMONS: I'm going to cheat and refer up to the above for the text, but have a graphic by
vida_boheme to illustrate me in my shirt at Shore Leave:

ICE CUBES: HEE. So, this one timeat geek camp, I wrote about John and Rodney as ice cubes! Much crackfic was to be had, Ice-Cube Rodney talked about Melt Physics, Ice-Cube John had fun tumbling out of the ice creator-thing in the freezer, and many lols were had. \o/
SGA: ♥ This is a show that took a really awesome concept (the Stargates) and planted it in a very visually rich environment 24-7 (as much as I LOVE SG-1, the bunker is DREARY OMG) and continued the tradition of geeky laughs and camaraderie. The characters... I just. I love them, most of all because the writers of the show didn't feel the need to make them addicts and assholes in order to make them 'interesting.' A show where the main characters live in the lost city of Atlantis on another PLANET in another GALAXY but still geek out over superheroes and Dr. Who is just... LOVE.
PEOPLE WHO ALSO LIKE KELLER: *grins* I dunno, I think even people who don't like her might find this bit interesting--I have a tendency to give the creators of something a TON of leeway in my interpretations. This can lead to comprehension mis-matches, like in Harry Potter, where my estimation of what the author meant to do becomes canon in my head, and I end up arguing it along with true canon. I say this because, while I genuinely like Keller's character and always have, this can definitely make me interpret the way she's written very differently than a lot of other fans, and indeed, possibly different from the way she is in the show. That being said, and ignoring the SGA writers' collective blind spot when it comes to writing females which is a whole other kettle of monkeys, I like her. I like that she isn't good at camping. I like that her naivete and optimism lets her handle some situations (and people) in unconventional ways. I like that she gets scared, and we know she's scared. Looking back, there are precious few female leads in the whole franchise who aren't obligated by training or toughness to ignore their fear. And most of all, I just love her in Trio, when she says to Rodney 'So, you're just going to stay there forever. On the rope.'
GENERAL AWESOMESAUCE, NOT MEEEEN: This stems from my forgetting Krim's birthday, which I groveled about and sie was gracious enough to not pummel me for! I dunno about awesome, but I'll settle for 'not sucky' and hope I can live up to that :) ♥
I'm VERY LATE on this, too, but I saw this on
villainny and
vida_boheme (no, I'm not trying to win the name-dropping contest, lol, but yeah, you're on here a lot! heh)'s journals:
- Describe me in one word... just one single word. Positive or negative.
- Leave your word in a comment before looking at what words others have used.
- Then post this meme to your own journal, if you feel like it.
So, to recap--let me know if you want five words/phrases/haikus/crossover rare pairings that I associate with you, and if you like, let me know what one word you'd use to describe me! I only have one rule--if you use hyphens, you have to let me do the five associations thing, just cause I know some of you love to flout rules. :P
